Brazil secured a late victory at Wembley with a 1-0 win over England, thanks to Endrick scoring his first international goal as a substitute.
Southgate has denied any talk of a rift with Arsenal defender Ben White after he was snubbed for the England squad. The teenage sensation, Endrick, stole the show as Brazil handed England a blow in their preparations for Euro 2024 with a 1-0 victory at Wembley.
Coach Dorival Junior made his debut in charge of the Selecao and fielded five debutants in the starting XI. It was an end-to-end first half with Brazil creating the better chances. Vinicius Jr came close to opening the scoring but his shot was cleared off the line by Kyle Walker. Unfortunately for England, their captain for the night had to leave the pitch early due to a hamstring concern.
Lucas Paqueta of West Ham also came close to finding the back of the net, hitting the woodwork. England’s best opportunity fell to Ollie Watkins, who was leading the line in the absence of the injured Harry Kane. However, under pressure, he drilled his shot over the bar.
The hosts improved in the second half but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Their lack of cutting edge was punished when the 17-year-old substitute, Endrick, who is set to join Real Madrid in the summer, scored from a rebound with just 10 minutes remaining.
Overall, it was a disappointing result for England as they continue their preparations for Euro 2024. Southgate will need to address the team’s attacking issues before the tournament begins.
