Since joining Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion for £50m in June 2021, White has made 122 appearances for the club. He has shown his versatility by excelling as a right-back, contributing two assists in the team’s recent 2-1 victory over Brentford. This win propelled Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table before the international break.
White’s impact has also been felt in the Champions League, where he played a significant role in Arsenal’s journey to the quarter-finals. Arteta has praised the defender’s professionalism and leadership qualities, highlighting his importance to the team.
“Ben is a key player for us, a top professional with a winning mentality, and one of the guys who leads by example every day,” Arteta stated. “Ben’s ability, determination, and positive attitude are so important, but he is also a great character and human being. We all look forward to continuing to work with Ben in the coming years.”
White’s footballing journey has been one of perseverance and development. After being released by Southampton as a youngster, he joined Brighton and gained valuable experience on loan spells at Newport County, Peterborough United, and Leeds United. It was at Brighton under Graham Potter’s guidance that White established himself as a regular starter during the 2020/21 season.
Despite his impressive performances, White has not received a call-up to the England squad since returning from the World Cup in Qatar. The reasons behind this decision remain undisclosed by both manager Gareth Southgate and the player himself.
Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, expressed his delight at securing White’s long-term commitment to the club. “We are so happy to have completed a new long-term contract with Ben,” Edu said. “Since Ben joined us, his contribution and commitment have been of such high quality. Our supporters love him, we love him, and we look forward to enjoying Ben’s performances with us for years to come.”
With his future secured, Ben White will undoubtedly continue to be a vital figure in Arsenal’s pursuit of success both domestically and in Europe.
