Bayern Munich suffered a setback in their pursuit of the Bundesliga title as they were defeated 0-1 by Werder Bremen, putting Harry Kane’s hopes of winning the trophy in jeopardy.
Harry Kane of Bayern Munich cut a dejected figure as Mitchell Weiser of Werder Bremen scored the only goal of the match. Bayern Munich returned from the winter break with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home.
The visitors had an early chance to take the lead when Justin Njinmah broke through on goal after a quick turnover. However, after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to a foul in the build-up. Bayern were fortunate to escape conceding.
The first half ended with both teams level, as Bayern struggled to find their rhythm and create scoring opportunities. The second half continued in a similar fashion, with Bayern dominating possession but lacking a cutting edge in front of goal.
Against the run of play, Mitchell Weiser found space in the box and unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net, giving Bremen the lead. Bayern were left stunned by the goal.
Bayern manager, Tuchel, turned to his substitutes in an attempt to salvage a result, but Bremen’s resolute defending kept them at bay. Despite a few half chances for Harry Kane and some impressive saves from Michael Zetterer, Bayern lacked the necessary bite to get back into the game.
With this defeat, Bayern now find themselves seven points behind Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen. On the other hand, Bremen’s three points take them nine points clear of the relegation places.
It was a disappointing result for Bayern Munich, and they will need to regroup quickly to get their title challenge back on track. More updates to follow.
