Bayern Munich officially announce a temporary agreement with Tottenham for the services of Eric Dier.
Eric Dier, the seasoned defender from Tottenham Hotspur, has made a move to Bayern Munich after a decade in north London. The 29-year-old has signed an initial six-month deal with the Bundesliga giants, with the option to extend for another year.
Dier expressed his excitement about joining Bayern, stating that it is a dream come true for him. He believes that Bayern, being one of the biggest clubs in the world with an incredible history, will provide him with the opportunity to showcase his versatility in defence.
Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, expressed his satisfaction with the signing of Dier, stating that the defender has been on their radar for some time. Freund believes that Dier’s skills and international experience will be valuable assets to the team both on and off the pitch.
Dier, who can also play in defensive midfield, has only made four appearances for Spurs this season and fell out of favor under manager Ange Postecoglou. Postecoglou has been rebuilding the Tottenham side, and Dier’s departure is another step in that process.
The manager’s decision to prioritize natural full-backs Emerson Royal and Ben Davies over Dier, despite the team’s injury crisis at centre-half, signaled the end for the English defender. Dier had a successful season last year, making 33 appearances in the Premier League under both Antonio Conte and interim head coach Ryan Mason. However, Postecoglou has deemed it the right time to cash in on Dier, who has 49 senior caps for England.
Tottenham will receive a fee of just under €5m from the deal, as Dier becomes the second Englishman to make the move from Hotspur Way to the Allianz Arena, following in the footsteps of Harry Kane, who joined the Bundesliga in August.
