Bayern Munich has signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace on a five-year contract for a reported fee of €60m.

Michael Olise, the highly sought-after French right winger, has completed his move from Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich in a deal worth a reported €60m. The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the German club until 2029.

Throughout the summer transfer window, Olise’s future was the subject of much speculation, with several top English clubs expressing interest in him. Manchester United, Chelsea, and Newcastle United were all admirers of the talented winger. Palace even granted permission for Chelsea and Newcastle to hold talks with Olise. However, he has ultimately chosen to make the switch to Germany.

Bayern Munich, now under the management of former Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, emerged as the frontrunners for Olise’s signature. It is believed that Chelsea deemed the deal too expensive, paving the way for Bayern to secure the talented youngster.

Max Eberl, FC Bayern board member for sport, expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, “Michael Olise is a player who can make the difference and attracted great interest with his style of play. We want new impetus in our team, new energy, new ideas – that’s what players like Michael Olise stand for. During the talks, he quickly signalled that he really wanted to join FC Bayern. We’re very much looking forward to him. He will enrich our game.”

Christoph Freund, FC Bayern sporting director, also praised Olise’s abilities, highlighting his speed, trickery, goal threat, and versatility in attack. Freund emphasized that Olise’s impressive goal and assist statistics at such a young age demonstrate his advanced skills and potential. He added, “Fans come to the stadium to see players like Michael Olise.”

Olise himself expressed his delight at joining Bayern Munich, describing the talks with the club as positive. He sees the move as a great challenge and an opportunity to prove himself at the highest level. Olise is determined to contribute to the team’s success and help them win as many titles as possible in the coming years.

Having joined Crystal Palace from Reading in 2021, Olise quickly established himself as one of the standout performers for the Eagles last season. Despite being plagued by recurring injuries, he managed to score 10 goals and provide six assists in just 19 appearances.

In addition to his club commitments, Olise has also been named in Thierry Henry’s France squad for the Olympic Games in Paris. If Les Bleus reach the final of the tournament, Olise will have a tight two-week turnaround to prepare for the start of the Bundesliga season on August 23.
