Aston Villa faced a tough challenge after a thrilling six-goal match against Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa Conference League, ending with a 2-4 score in favor of the Greek team.
In a thrilling UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final clash at Villa Park, Aston Villa’s Brazilian midfielder #06 Douglas Luiz was left devastated after missing a crucial penalty. The match saw Ayoub El Kaabi shine for Olympiacos, scoring a remarkable hat-trick and leading his team to a commanding 4-2 victory.
From the start, Olympiacos displayed their dominance, with El Kaabi showcasing his skills by finding the back of the net twice in the 16th and 29th minutes. These excellent finishes gave the Greek team a well-deserved 2-0 lead.
However, Villa fought back just before halftime, with Ollie Watkins scoring in the 45+1′ minute to bring the score to 2-1. The momentum continued in the second half, as Moussa Diaby equalized for Villa in the 52nd minute.
Unfortunately for Villa, their comeback was short-lived. El Kaabi secured his hat-trick by converting a penalty in the 56th minute, after Douglas Luiz was penalized for a clear handball. The visitors then extended their lead to 4-2 with a deflected drive from Santiago Hezze in the 67th minute.
The disappointment for Villa’s passionate crowd was compounded in the closing moments of the match when Luiz missed a penalty, following a foul on substitute Jhon Durán by David Carmo.
With this victory, Olympiacos is now on track to reach their first major continental final. This achievement would mark a significant milestone for Greek football, as the last Greek club to reach a major final was Panathinaikos in the 1971 European Cup final, where they lost 2-0 to Ajax at Wembley.
