Arteta Urges Arsenal to be ‘Ruthless’ Against Sevilla in Champions League
“It is my duty to defend my club” – Arteta stands by referee outburst after Newcastle loss.
Mikel Arteta, the passionate manager of Arsenal, has come out in defense of his club following their recent loss to Newcastle. In a fiery outburst directed at the referee, Arteta expressed his frustration with the officiating and vowed to protect his team at all costs.
Looking ahead to their UEFA Champions League clash with Sevilla on Wednesday, Arteta has called on his players to show no mercy. After a seven-year absence from the top tier of European competition, Arsenal have made a strong start to their campaign and currently sit at the top of Group B.
Arteta recognizes the challenge that Sevilla will pose, acknowledging that the level of competition in the Champions League is incredibly high. However, he wants his players to embrace the occasion and seize their opportunities.
“We are in a good position and we have the chance to take bigger steps in this competition,” Arteta stated in an interview with TNT Sports. “The level is really high and it is tough to win games in this competition.”
Having already faced PSV Eindhoven, Sevilla, and Lens in their group, Arteta believes that the second round of games will be different. Teams will now have more data on their opponents, making the challenge even greater. But Arteta’s focus remains on his team’s ability to be ruthless and take advantage of their chances.
“In the Champions League, you have to be absolutely ruthless when you have the opportunities,” Arteta emphasized. “We have been waiting many years to play these games, and the anger has to be seen immediately from the first minute.”
Arteta is determined to make the opponents suffer and has urged his players to maintain their determination throughout the match. He believes that even if they don’t succeed in one moment, they must continue to push forward and make their presence felt.
While Arsenal has had a good start to the competition, Arteta acknowledges that there is still room for improvement. He expects nothing less than the best from his team and hopes to see them continue to grow and develop.
The highly anticipated clash between Arsenal and Sevilla will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 2 and TNT Sports Ultimate. Fans can subscribe to TNT Sports through various TV platforms, including discovery+, BT, EE, Sky, and Virgin Media. The match kicks off at 8pm UK time on Wednesday, November 8th.
