Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, aims to secure new signings during the early stages of the January transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has stressed the importance of making early signings in the upcoming January transfer window. He specifically wants to strengthen the team’s defense, particularly in the center-back position, due to the absence of Cristian Romero and Micky van der Ven, who are both out with injuries and suspensions.
Romero will be out for 4-5 weeks with a hamstring strain, while van der Ven is still recovering from a similar problem and could potentially return by mid-January. In their absence, Eric Dier and Ben Davies are being considered as options for the center-back role in Thursday night’s Premier League clash against Brighton.
Both teams are dealing with several high-profile injuries, with Spurs missing James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur. Additionally, Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, and Son Heung-Min will soon leave to represent their respective countries in the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup.
Postecoglou believes that completing transfer business early in the window would benefit the team. He stated, “Obviously if we can do business early, it’s great for us. Not just because of losing Romero but there’s a whole month there – why waste it?” The manager believes that signing players early would allow them to integrate into the team’s style of play and training, rather than having to wait until later in the window to catch up.
However, Postecoglou acknowledges the challenges of securing early signings, as other clubs are aware of Tottenham’s intentions. He understands that it may not be easy to bring in new players immediately, but he remains hopeful of making early additions to the squad.
Tottenham will face Brighton on the south coast, aiming to extend their winning streak to four matches. Meanwhile, Brighton will be looking to end their winless run in the league, having failed to secure victory in their last three matches.
