Ange Postecoglou is ‘not focused’ on a pragmatic approach at Tottenham.
**Postecoglou Stands Firm on Entertaining Philosophy Amid Spurs’ Inconsistencies**
Ange Postecoglou, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, has expressed his belief that fans may come to miss his entertaining style of play once his tenure at the club comes to an end. As Spurs currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, the Australian tactician is determined to stick to his guns despite a mixed start to the season.
The North London club has experienced a rollercoaster of results, suffering defeats to relegation-threatened sides Crystal Palace and Ipswich, while also securing impressive victories against Aston Villa and reigning champions Manchester City in their last four league outings. However, Postecoglou is adamant that he will not shift towards a more pragmatic approach ahead of their upcoming clash with Fulham on Sunday.
“Look, I don’t know how many ways I can say this,” Postecoglou stated firmly. “There’s plenty of room for pragmatism in walks of life and in football as well. But I’m just not interested in it. I don’t see why I need to change my approach to fit what everyone else wants me to be.”
The Spurs boss continued, “I’ll continue to push this team to be a bit different, to play football in a different way. Maybe when I’m long gone, you’ll all pine for my entertainment, and you’ll have had your fill of pragmatism. If we were pragmatic, I’d say at 2-0 up at City away, we’d have probably settled, and we wouldn’t have got the victory we did, making it a special moment for our club.”
So far this season, Tottenham has recorded six wins, one draw, and five defeats across their 12 Premier League matches. Following their morale-boosting triumph over Manchester City, the team faced a disappointing 2-2 draw against Serie A strugglers Roma in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
Postecoglou remains resolute in his belief that taking risks on the pitch is essential for the team’s development. “I always think of the possibilities of what could be if we continue down this road, rather than holding on to what we have,” he explained. “At the moment, what do we have? We don’t have a hell of a lot. We haven’t achieved anything yet; we haven’t had success, we haven’t done all the things we want to do.”
He added, “So if I start being pragmatic now, maybe we’ll never get there. Last night we weren’t at our highest level, but for 20 minutes, I thought we were as exciting as we’ve been since I’ve been here. I loved our last 20 minutes of the first half. We should have got a third goal to kill the game off, but we were exciting to watch. And that’s what I want.”
As Spurs prepare for their next challenge, Postecoglou’s commitment to an entertaining brand of football remains unwavering, leaving fans hopeful for a thrilling season ahead.
