According to Michael Owen, Luis Enrique is engaging in a game of strategy with Kylian Mbappe substitutions at Paris Saint-Germain.

Michael Owen, the renowned sports expert from TNT Sports, has criticized Luis Enrique’s decision to substitute Kylian Mbappe early in games, calling it a “ridiculous game”. Owen believes that Enrique should be maximizing Mbappe’s playing time and extracting every ounce of talent from him.

Enrique’s recent strategy of dropping Mbappe in and out of the team seems to be a preparation for life without the French superstar next season. Mbappe started on the bench against Nantes and was then substituted after 65 minutes against Rennes. In the game against Monaco, he was taken off at half-time with the scoreline still goalless.

Owen argues that this approach is nonsensical, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding the future of both the manager and the players at the club. He emphasizes the importance of having one of the best players in the world in the squad, stating that without Mbappe, the chances of winning the Champions League are slim to none. Owen describes Mbappe as a difference-maker and believes that he should be played for every available minute.

After being substituted against Monaco, Mbappe was seen watching the rest of the match with his mother in the stands instead of being with his teammates. However, he was named in the starting lineup for PSG’s Champions League clash with Real Sociedad and scored a brilliant opening goal.

Glenn Hoddle, another expert from TNT Sports, shares Owen’s sentiments and finds it illogical for Enrique not to rely on Mbappe while he is still at the club. Hoddle suggests that there may be an element of ego from the manager towards the player, given Mbappe’s impending departure. However, Hoddle emphasizes that the manager’s priority should be to secure his own job and play the best players available.

Hoddle also highlights the importance of Mbappe as a player that fans want to watch, comparing him to Lionel Messi. He believes that football needs players like Mbappe, as they attract viewers and inspire young fans. Hoddle concludes by stating that Mbappe still has his peak years ahead of him and should be given the opportunity to perform on the pitch.
