Aaron Wan-Bissaka departs from Manchester United to join West Ham United in a £15 million agreement, with the full-back committing to a six-year deal.

West Ham United have made a significant addition to their squad with the signing of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United. The 26-year-old, who was entering the final year of his contract with the Red Devils, has now joined the Hammers and will wear the No. 29 shirt.

For Wan-Bissaka, the decision to join West Ham was an easy one. Speaking to the club’s website, he expressed his excitement and happiness about the move. Being back in London, where he was born, holds a special significance for him. He is eager to get on the pitch, get to know his new teammates, and contribute to the team’s success.

The highly-rated defender had attracted interest from Inter Milan as well, but ultimately chose West Ham as his next destination. During his time at Manchester United, Wan-Bissaka made 190 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing 10 assists. He began his career at Crystal Palace and was named the club’s Player of the Year in his final season there before making the move to Old Trafford in 2019 for a fee of £45m.

However, Wan-Bissaka has struggled to make a significant impact in recent years. Injuries and illnesses hampered his performances in the first half of the 2022/23 season, and manager Erik ten Hag often preferred Diogo Dalot in the starting line-up during the 2023/24 campaign.

The signing of Wan-Bissaka is part of West Ham’s efforts to strengthen their squad under new manager Julen Lopetegui, who took over from long-serving boss David Moyes. The club has been active in the transfer window, securing the services of several players including Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham, Niclas Fullkrug, Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Guido Rodriguez.

With Wan-Bissaka’s departure, Manchester United now have the opportunity to pursue a deal for Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui as a replacement. West Ham had also shown interest in the Moroccan international.

The Premier League transfer window is set to close on August 30 at 11pm BST, giving clubs limited time to finalize their squad reinforcements.
