A key position that every Premier League team should focus on during the summer transfer window.
Another busy summer is on the horizon in the transfer market as Premier League clubs prepare to splash the cash to enhance their squads ahead of the new campaign.
The transfer window is officially open once again, and a flurry of activity is anticipated between now and the deadline day on September 1.
TNT Sports takes a closer look at one area every team in the Premier League could, and perhaps should, address before the window slams shut.
**Arsenal – Forward**
It has long been suggested that The Gunners require a centre-forward if they are to transition from nearly men to contenders for football’s biggest prizes.
While a goalscorer is essential, does it need to come from the traditional ‘No. 9’ position? Although players like Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres would be welcome additions, the fact that Kai Havertz was Arsenal’s top scorer with just nine goals in the league during the 2024/25 season highlights the need to distribute goals more evenly across the team. An additional wide forward could prove just as crucial.
**Aston Villa – Goalkeeper**
The disappointment of missing out on the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and a top-five finish in the Premier League should not require too much soul-searching for a Villa team that has continued to impress in recent years.
However, with rumours swirling about Emi Martinez potentially leaving, securing a new goalkeeper of similar calibre will be an absolute priority for Unai Emery’s side.
**Bournemouth – Centre-back**
With clubs circling around talents like Milos Kerkez and Antoine Semenyo, The Cherries may be busy reinforcing their squad.
One player who has already departed the Vitality Stadium is Dean Huijsen, making a replacement at centre-back essential if they are to match or improve on their club record of the least goals conceded (46) in a single Premier League campaign last term.
**Brentford – Attacker**
Whether it’s to Manchester United, Tottenham, or elsewhere, The Bees are potentially preparing to bid farewell to Bryan Mbuemo.
The forward contributed 20 Premier League goals and seven assists from the right wing last season, boasting the third-highest number of goal involvements in the league. If he does indeed leave, his output will need to be replaced.
**Brighton – Striker**
Kaoru Mitoma, Joao Pedro, and Danny Welbeck all netted 10 goals in the league last season, but with interest in the former two and Welbeck no longer in his prime, Brighton will require a proven goalscorer (or two) at the Amex.
While Welbeck remains a reliable asset, the fact that the 2024/25 season was the first in which he hit double figures in league goals suggests that the club should not rely too heavily on him moving forward.
Brighton has already been active in this area, securing two young Greek forwards, Stefanos Tzimas and Charalampos Kostoulas, for a combined reported fee of over £50 million. However, both are still teenagers and may not be ready to lead the line for a Premier League team week in, week out.
**Burnley – Striker**
The Clarets’ return to the top flight was largely built on a sturdy defence in the Championship, but that will be tested in the Premier League. If Scott Parker’s team is to avoid a swift return to the EFL, they will need to find the back of the net more frequently.
Captain Josh Brownhill scored an impressive 18 goals during their promotion campaign, largely from midfield, so a recognised centre-forward alongside Zian Flemming—whose loan deal from Millwall has been made permanent—will be essential.
**Chelsea – Goalkeeper**
An established and reliable No. 1 would be welcomed at Stamford Bridge, given the concerns surrounding Robert Sanchez and his understudies.
Of all the top-flight keepers last season, no one made more errors leading to goals than the Spaniard. The club has seen a move for Milan’s Mike Maignan fall through (for now), but one expects them to revisit the hunt for a new stopper before the window closes in August.
**Crystal Palace – Midfielder**
The FA Cup winners are looking forward to their first season in an elite European competition and will need to bolster their squad now that Thursday night football has been added to the calendars around Selhurst Park.
A creative midfield option was likely a top priority even before their famous Wembley victory. Eberechi Eze’s tally of eight league goals and eight assists was commendable, but none of Daichi Kamada, Jefferson Lerma, Will Hughes, or Adam Wharton found the back of the net, with Hughes’ three assists being the next best from that position.
**Everton – Striker**
David Moyes’ return to the club initially sparked a significant upturn in form as The Toffees clawed their way out of relegation trouble. After years of battling the drop, the club will want to start looking upwards.
Everton’s 42 goals last season were the fewest of all the teams in the league, barring the bottom three, so a clinical forward must be high on their list, especially with the expected departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
**Fulham – Attacker**
Fulham achieved a respectable mid-table finish last season and will hope to build on that next time around.
For that to happen, Marco Silva will want his side to improve on the 54 goals they managed in the league and should be targeting more firepower, either up front or in wide areas.
